Treatment Approach
Dr. Chila is committed to utilising evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to her clients’ unique needs. She primarily integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques with elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help individuals challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, develop coping skills, and cultivate psychological flexibility.
What We Treat
Anxiety
Disorders
Dr. Chila incorporates Interpersonal Therapy and a Cognitive Behavioural approach when working with anxiety disorders. This assists individuals to make sense of what may be causing and influencing their anxiety, challenge negative thought patterns and develop healthier coping strategies. Mindfulness and relaxation techniques are employed to assist in the management of anxiety. Sessions with parents are provided to assist in understanding their children’s anxiety and how to implement strategies to assist them.
Major Depressive
Disorders
Dr. Chila employs Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to assist individuals with depression to identify and change negative thought patterns, develop coping skills, and improve interpersonal relationships. Involving family in the treatment process can assist in improving communication and provide support to the young person and their care givers. School meetings can be coordinated to promote engagement in activities, encourage healthy routines and enhance emotional support.
Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder
Dr. Chila employs behavioural intervention, educational support and parent support when working with individuals experiencing ADHD. Behavioural intervention focuses on teaching specific skills, promoting positive behaviours, and managing challenging behaviours. The aim is to assist clients to learn strategies to manage emotion regulation such as mindfulness, self-monitoring, problem solving and organisational skills. Social skills training is also a focus to help children and adolescents develop listening, sharing, and turn taking skills. If required, schools meetings can be facilitated to assist with educational modifications.
Autism Spectrum
Disorder (ASD)
Dr. Chila assists individuals with ASD to develop social, communication and adaptive skills. Cognitive behavioural strategies are employed to assist with anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive behaviours and emotion regulation. There is a focus to assist individuals to develop coping strategies such as problem-solving skills and self-regulation techniques to enhance overall well-being. Parents are provided support in implementing strategies to improve communication. School meetings can be organised to assist with educational modifications as required.
Intellectual
Disability
Dr. Chila recognises and accommodates the unique needs and challenges for individuals with intellectual disabilities. She utilises behavioural intervention to assist with emotion regulation and enhance functional and social skills that can be transferred across various settings. A cognitive behavioural approach is utilised to assist in challenging negative thought patterns and enhancing coping skills. Interpersonal therapy, mindfulness and relaxation techniques are also employed to assist with anxiety and mood disorders. Parents sessions are provided to assist in the application of strategies to enhance positive outcomes.
School
Refusal
Dr. Chila applies Cognitive Behavioural and Interpersonal therapeutic approaches to address the underlying causes of school refusal. This is to help individuals develop coping strategies to manage their anxiety and return to school. Individuals are supported to identify and challenging negative thoughts and beliefs about school and develop coping skills to assist in their return to school. Some strategies involve cognitive restructuring, relaxation and mindfulness and systemic desensitisation. Meetings with schools can be arranged to implement emotional, behavioural, and academic support to assist a positive return to school.
